Earwax is a yellowish waxy substance secreted in the outer part of the ear canal. This wax protects the ear from dust, foreign particles, and microorganisms. It also protects ear canal skin from irritation due to water and assists in cleaning. Normally, excess wax finds its own way out of the canal and is washed away but it often builds up, gets hard, and blocks the ear. Unremoved earwax build-up can lead to infection, temporary hearing loss, and tinnitus (ringing in the ears).
We use a Vorotek O-Scope microscope to carefully examine the ear then apply a low-pressure suction device to safely remove the blockage.
